Johnny O'Keefe - It 'My Baby No. 1, 1960, No 6 1969 Born in Sydney on 9 January 1935, Johnny O'Keefe was the undisputed king of Australian rock and roll. There was little or no rock scene in Australia, and certainly not the Australian rock records, before 1957, when Bill Haley toured the country. A local band the Dee Jays was with singer Johnny O'Keefe, chosen as the opening act. A variety of tours and appearances on Lee Gordon "Big Show" supports foreign artists (whichThey were often greeted with chants of "We want Johnny") led to Johnny gave his national television show, Six O'Clock Rock, in 1959.
